Forget me-not Show in Tokyo!

The embroidered forget me-not show I was able to be a part of this past Valentine's Day is on the road to Tokyo! As an added bonus, the gallery is having a second exhibit featuring embroidered dresses for Blythe (sorry about the lame link- it seems no one I know is familiar with these big eyed dolls). Here are the 2 creations I made (mostly during my lunch break at work).

Check in soon for 4 new summer weight scarves I finished up today. Fringe and photography should be complete some time this week.

My how she's grown...

Pidge was such a cute little snuggler. I found these 2 photos cleaning out my desktop this morning and had to put them side by side. Note the innocent and peaceful ball she is curled in as a kitty. Now take a gander at the beast she's turned into! (I say this with love) Do you see the look of annoyance in her eyes and the grip she has on Albert? (She thinks, "He is all mine.. I will sit on his lap and prevent him from doing work so that he will pet me... muhaha!)

Oh Pidge.

In other news, this week etsy is having a special Pets Showcase right on their front page... be sure to check it out!
Also, I had the most delicious breakfast this morning (it didn't last long enough to take a photo).. whipped ricotta mousse with fresh cherries and shaved chocolate. I can't believe I've never made it before- whip 1 cup or so of ricotta cheese (I used an immersion blender but the recipe recommends a beater) with 1 Tbls. powdered sugar for a few minutes until light and creamy. Stir in a little drizzle of vanilla or almond extract, chopped fresh cherries and top with slivered almonds and chocolate. Like a fluffy cannoli filling..mmm...

Summer Scarves and Yarn Gluttony

Here's a photo (taken with the newly fixed camera) of some of the glorious yarn stash I purchased. Mind you- this is only one layer deep!

Here are 2 scarves I have been working on with summer in mind. I've spaced the warp threads out and am using lighter weight fibers. Above, you can see the color inspiration (the fabric) for the blue and green scarf. Things are going slightly slower now that I'm working full time- but I'm hoping as soon as things settle down, I can pick up the pace again.

An old project to share

I've been meaning to share these not too hot photos of a project from a few years ago. This quilt (my first and possible last double wedding ring quilt) was a gift for my old college roommate, Blythe, and her husband, Mike. It was a true labor of love (especially removing the cat from my lovely ironed pieces at least once a night) and it couldn't have gone to better friends. The pictures I have are terrible- taken the night of the rehearsal dinner in a Marriot in Pennsylvania (Blythe, if you're reading this... would you be able to photograph this in natural (non-hotel) light for me? I have it in my head that one day I'll duplicate it for myself).
The colors were inspired by a bowl of tangerines on an old painted blue-gray bureau (Still have the image and hope to use it for weaving inspiration one of these days).

Newer things to share hopefully soon. A yarn shop in the neighborhood is having a moving sale (I have gone 3 times already) - and I bought 2 big bags of yarn for 99 cents and 1.99 a ball... I am super excited because I picked out beautiful colors and the yarn is all merino, silk blends, cotton and other super soft stuff. I have a great feeling about this fall's new scarf line up!

Photo of my giant yarn stash to come.. the digital camera is back in the mail - this time to Rochester all fixed and ready to go!

Back to Work

The goo got to eat her first moth of the season. Here she is (not exactly) smiling and grateful.

Tomorrow is the first day of a new job. I am starting to get that first day of school feeling and attempted a dry run of waking 2 hours earlier than I normally do today.. I hope all works out- 4 days a week and (hopefully) still ample time to work on pidgepidge. It will be great to supplement my income and maybe save a bit to invest in new fibers (hello wool, I miss you!) for the fall season and splurge every once in a while (goat cheese, you better watch out, I'm comin' to getcha!).

Here are Albert and Pidge, a sight I will surely miss every day while dressing "business casual" (anyone know what this entails? Pidgepidge has a strict policy of "pajamas casual"). Notice Pidge doing her best impression of an animatronic cat a la epcot center or sabrina, the teenage witch.

Linwood P.S.

Here are 2 more photos from Linwood Gardens.. The little fountain below had a tiny trickle of water above being blown clear out of the fountain and into the air.

I am on the third scarf on the the looser warp and weaving seems to be going well, if not noticeably slower. I am finding it quite the challenge to stick to thinner cottons and every once in a while have to add an inch or two of something thicker. I've recently been re-gifted several balls of jo sharp cotton yarn and find it really nice to weave with. The camera craziness seems to have a cure and canon will be sending me a label to ship it off and get it fixed for free! So.. there may be a delay in scarf images as I wait for it to return to me, all shiny and new.

Planet Green

How fun! My college roomie, Blythe, just put up a diy article on the website she contributes to about the matchbook notebooks I make for my etsy shop. I'm sure I gave her instructions in the form of run-on sentences and bad grammar... she has transformed the mess of a paragraph into well-written easy-to-follow directions. Check it out here and subscribe to the blog while you're at it!
